About

Shonto Artists' Project was a one month pilot project that took place in July 2010 on the Navajo Reservation near Shonto, Arizona. The mission was to transport largely urban artists from their familiar surroundings and place them in a native, rural and traditional Arizona- not only to stimulate there creativity but also to reach out and connect with the surrounding Indigenous community. Artists will spent 1 week living on the Navajo Reservation connecting with the community and working on their craft.
Shonto Artists' Project sought artists from all disciplines. It did matter if you are a painter, musician, composer, seamstress, dancer, actor, playwright, etc., any discipline was welcome to apply.
Details for the 2011 Shonto Artists' Project will reveal themselves when available.
